Arrowood has gone silent

Just an update. I’ve parted company with my publisher, so at the moment there’s no date for a new Arrowood book. I will be writing another at some point, and am really looking forward to getting back into that world, but I’m not sure when that will be. At the moment, I’m writing a crime book set in the modern day. My agent, Jo Unwin, has seen a first draft and been very positive. She’s suggested some revisions, which I’m working on, probably until February. It has the same spirit as the Arrowood books, but with a very different character and setting. I’ll provide more updates when I have them. Many thanks to all the readers who have supported Arrowood so far. I really appreciate it.

  1. Really enjoyed the Arrowood series, very realistic and gritty. As I was born in SE London, now living in Vancouver BC, it’s a real taste of home… albeit a few years before I was born!
Look forward to your next book, and hope Arrowood makes a return too!

  2. Originally from SE London, so know a lot of the places in the Arrowood books… love the grittiness and the real feel of how Victorian London must have been!
Look forward to his next adventure and also your new book!

  3. I missed Arrowood and checked the bookshop on a regular basis to see if any new book came out. Hope Arrowood will make a comeback. As I really enjoyed reading the stories. (Devour would probable be a better word.)

    1. Oh, thank you, Pascal. I’m sorry it’s taken so long to reply. I’ve been working on my new book and lost track of things a little bit. It’s so good to hear you enjoyed the stories!

  4. Arrowood – my third time of listening to all four of them – the best. The escape into this entirely different world, not that long ago really, is priceless. I laugh at the descriptions of Arrowood, I cringe at the awful living conditions and the resulting horrors, I marvel at the story lines and the conclusions and I beg for more, please. I’m suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

Ps.: what are the black rock pills please? I researched umpteen articles on those times and the drugs in use but couldn’t find anything. There is something on Persian asphalt though, is that it?

    Pps.: Have a splendid ‘24 !

  6. it is sorry state when publishers are dropping brilliant authors like you , for the new rival of cosy books. They are so fickle , mick you are a rare talent and the book game is cruel , what annoys me most your British and we are sold so many pretenders in this genre or even from America .

mick please bring forth the next book and even self publish it, so many are because they don’t fit in the current moment. I know many authors who are shocked they’ve been dropped and have chosen to go alone .

    be your own man..

personally I find your books so well written , and the audible comes across brilliantly.

Keep focused and see forward and let the next story be brilliant , arrowood is to see another outing !

  7. I’m unsure if my last message got posted, so I will try again mick.

publishers are so fickle , your genre isn’t cosy – so like every good writer . You no doubt have decided to change things to fit in.

I have known authors go independent because of the publishers forcing them to change,

personally arrowood is different and totally a breath of fresh hair and any decent publisher would of kept you.

the character you created is for me , excellent.

I have over 3000 books in my library and you are one author I loved.

look for the light mick and do not give up

    1. Thanks for your encouraging words, Sir James. It’s great to hear that you liked the books – and helps keep me going during my spell in the wilderness. After spending 3 years on the wrong track, I’m back to writing a new crime novel. After that I fully intend to write another Arrowood book. Thanks again for getting in touch. It means a lot to me.

  8. arrowood for me was a brilliant creation, such a great creation and the publishers are so fickle and we are now expected to read cosy books with no depth.

mick for me we need another book to prove the publishers wrong.

your British and it’s a lovely and creative and todays publishers are about numbers and not what you write, so many authors are getting dropped for lightweight stories and have it authors .

  9. Arrowood is my favourite book of all time, and I read a

lot of books. The sadness, the humour and love is so beautifully crafted. I’ve read read the 3 times and discovered new subtlety each time. They are truly great stories.

  10. Sorry for the auto corrects. It should read I’ve re-read the series 3 times.
just to add, the laugh out loud moments, usually at William’s expense, have always been different at each reading. Just shows the depths of these brilliant books.
